    Dear Student Undergraduate Researcher,

Congratulations on being selected to present your research at the
Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence! Research is a critical
part of UCF’s mission, and I would like to encourage you to consider
publishing the results of your research in the University of Central
    Florida Undergraduate Research Journal.

Transforming research from a poster presentation to a published essay
necessitates that you pay careful attention to the different
expectations of these professional venues. I urge you to discuss these
matters with your academic advisor or myself if you are interested in
pursuing publication in the UCF URJ. Also, the Office of Undergraduate
Research will be hosting a workshop on this topic, “From Poster to
Publication,” on April 7, 2009, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., in Student Union
    220.

Again, congratulations on your research accomplishments, and I look
    forward to hearing from you.

    Sincerely,

    Tison Pugh, Ph.D.

Congratulations! Your project has been selected for inclusion in the 2009 Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence, to be held Thursday, April 2 from 1:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Student Union, Pegasus Ballroom.

Student check-in and presentation set-up in the Ballroom will be anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m. all students will be asked to leave the Ballroom, which will be closed so that teams of faculty and community judges can conduct a preliminary examination of presentations without interruption. At 1:30 p.m., the Ballroom will re-open to the UCF community and the general public. Student presenters are expected to be on hand between 1:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. (or at the time chosen on the application form) to talk about their projects with the judges, as well as with UCF students, faculty, and guests from the greater Orlando community. UCF President John C. Hitt will make brief opening remarks at 1:30 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., the Vice Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies, Dr. Alison Morrison-Shetlar, will award scholarships to students adjudged to have the best Showcase projects in each category.

All Showcase projects will be judged according to the criteria found at www.Showcase.ucf.edu.

You are encouraged to invite family, friends, classmates, colleagues and faculty mentors to attend the Showcase.

All projects will be provided with 4x2 feet of table space, poster boards are not provided. Suggested guidelines for poster presentations are available at www.Showcase.ucf.edu. Additionally, the Office of Undergraduate Research is offering a workshop on Preparing a Poster Presentation several times in March (see www.Showcase.ucf.edu).

If you have other questions or concerns about the Showcase, please contact the Office of Undergraduate Research at 407-823-3125 or OUR@mail.ucf.edu. If for any reason you cannot participate in the Showcase please contact us ASAP.

As a reminder, Mentor of the Year nominations are due this Friday, March 6. Details on how to nominate your mentor can be found at www.Showcase.ucf.edu. Nomination letters should be emailed to the Student Undergraduate Research Council (SURC@mail.ucf.edu).

Thank you for applying to the 2009 Showcase of Undergraduate Research Excellence. We look forward to meeting you on April 2.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Kimberly Schneider
